The Pittsburgh Life Sciences Alliance ("PLSA," "we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy and security of the personal information we collect. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and protect the personal information of individuals ("you") who visit our website, https://www.pittsburghlifesci.org/ (the "Site"), subscribe to our communications, or otherwise interact with us.

Our mission is to connect the region’s unique clinical, research, manufacturing, and technology strengths to advance Southwest PA as a global life sciences leader and economic engine. We provide this Privacy Policy to help you understand our data practices. By accessing or using our Site, you signify that you have read, understood, and agree to our collection, storage, use, and disclosure of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Service.

We collect information in various ways when you interact with our Site. This information includes data you provide to us directly and data we collect automatically.

2.1. Personal Information You Provide to Us

We collect personal information that you voluntarily provide to us when you choose to engage with Us. This includes:

  • Contact Information: When you sign up for our newsletter or download resources such as our reports and executive summaries, we collect your name and email address.  
  • Communications: If you contact us directly, we may receive additional information about you, such as your phone number, the contents of the message and/or attachments you may send us, and any other information you may choose to provide.

2.2. Information Collected Automatically (Log and Usage Data)

4.3. Corporate Transactions

In the event of a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of our assets, personal information held by us may be among the assets transferred. The recipient of the data will be required to use the information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.  

4.4. No Sale of Personal Information

PLSA does not sell your personal information for monetary or other valuable consideration, and we will not do so in the future without providing you with notice and an opportunity to opt out.

5. Your Privacy Rights

We believe in providing you with control over your personal information. Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding the personal information we hold about you. We extend the rights provided under the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) to all our users as a matter of good practice.

5.1. Your California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have the following rights:

  • (a) Right to Know: You have the right to request information about the categories and specific pieces of personal information we have collected about you, as well as the categories of sources from which such information is collected, the purpose for collecting such information, and the categories of third parties with whom we share it.  
  • (b) Right to Delete: You have the right to request the deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.  
  • (c) Right to Correct: You have the right to request the correction of inaccurate personal information we maintain about you.  
  • (d) Right to Opt-Out of Sale or Sharing: You have the right to direct us not to sell or share your personal information. As stated above, we do not sell personal information. You can exercise this right by visiting our "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" page.  
  • (e) Right to Limit Use of Sensitive Personal Information (SPI): You have the right to limit the use and disclosure of your SPI. PLSA does not currently collect information that qualifies as SPI under California law.  
  • (f) Right to Non-Discrimination: You have the right not to be discriminated against for exercising any of your privacy rights.  

5.2. Exercising Your Rights

To exercise any of the rights described above, please submit a verifiable request to us by emailing privacy@pittsburghlifesci.org.

We will verify your request using the information associated with your account, including your email address. We will respond to your request within 45 days of receipt, though we may extend this period by an additional 45 days where necessary.  

5.3. Opting Out of Marketing Communications

You can opt out of receiving promotional emails from us at any time by following the unsubscribe instructions provided in those emails. Please note that even if you opt out of marketing communications, we may still send you non-promotional messages, such as those related to our ongoing business relations. This is in compliance with the CAN-SPAM Act.  

6. Data Security

We have implemented and maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical security measures designed to protect the personal information you provide against accidental, unlawful, or unauthorized destruction, loss, alteration, access, disclosure, or use. While we take steps to secure your information, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.  

7. Third-Party Links

Our Site contains links to other websites not operated or controlled by us ("Third-Party Sites"). The information that you share with Third-Party Sites will be governed by the specific privacy policies and terms of service of the Third-Party Sites, not by this Privacy Policy. We do not endorse and are not responsible for the privacy practices of these Third-Party Sites.  

8. Children's Privacy

Our services are not directed to or intended for use by individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that a child under 16 has provided us with personal information in violation of applicable law, we will delete any personal information we have collected, unless we have a legal obligation to keep it.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
